Watch your data inflate the Flashbag

I had been talking to Ronnie whether storing data on a Flash drive makes it heavy or not. We were having such strange discussions that at a point of time, it was clear that the thing could actually get heavier because the electrical energy would convert into mass... (what a concept!)

Anyway... here's what I found on the net...
A USB Flashbag (USB Flash Drive with micro pump)


It's a standard USB flash drive that has a tiny pump in it that inflates when you load it with data. So if your drive is full of stuff, it blows up like a balloon, but if it's empty it remains flat and rectangular. But unfortunately, the Flashbag is merely a concept design and there are no plans at this time for it to be manufactured or sold.

Samsung continues to awe us with it's innovation in mobile phones, this time with a phone with 8GB hard drive. The SGH-i310 is an upgrade to the Samsung SGH-i300x which has a 4GB hard drive. The i310's mammoth 8GB hard drive can hold upto 2000 songs. It's MP3 player can playback MP3, WMA and AAC files and includes powerful stereo speakers.

Yahoo! is testing its new Yahoo! Mindset Search Engine, which promises to be an "Intent-Driven Search". Based on your intent of "shopping" or "researching" it dynamically rearranges the search results for a particular keyword.

"Good Morning" -- Two words which I don't get to hear much often because of my erratic sleeping schedule... No, I do not work in night shift, but still its pretty hard for me to get up before afternoon. I think I have found the almost perfect solution now...
Waking up feeling refreshed is not a matter of how much you sleep. It’s about waking up in the correct stage of your sleep cycle. The aXbo alarm clock does just that and more. To use, simply put on the wireless wristband, set the time you need to wake up no matter what, and the aXbo alarm clock will attempt to detect the right time to wake you up, within a specified time window (e.g. 30 minutes). The aXbo also runs on mains and/or batteries, eliminating the problem of the alarm running out of juice in the middle of the night. After having a lengthy discussion with Sunny yesterday, I decided to put in some new stuff to my blog. Here are two good utilities that I found on the net.

NotePad2
The original Notepad shipped with Windows is probably the handiest program of all times, small, fast, without frills! Notepad2 tries to follow this principle, it's a small, fast and free text editor with syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages.

Ext2 Installable File System For Windows

Phew!!!... Finally... The one thing that I was looking for.

The "Ext2 Installable File System for Windows" provides Windows NT4.0/2000/XP with full access to Linux Ext2 volumes (read access and write access).


It installs a pure kernel mode file system driver Ext2fs.sys, which actually extends the Windows NT/2000/XP operating system to include the Ext2 file system. Since it is executed on the same software layer at the Windows NT operating system core like all of the native file system drivers of Windows (for instance NTFS, FASTFAT, or CDFS for Joliet/ISO CD-ROMs), all applications can access directly to Ext2 volumes.

GPS Nailed

Rakon, a 39-year-old New Zealand-based company, has developed the world’s smallest GPS receiver. Claimed to be as tiny as the size of a baby’s fingernail, the GPS receiver chip is small enough to be fitted into devices such as watches and cellphones.


Brent Robinson, Rakon’s Managing Director, also mentioned that the GPS receiver will have sensitivity good enough to pick up weak signals, perfect for urban environments with high interference.

Bluetooth Remote Control

Bluetooth Remote Control is a true universal remote control. It can be used to change songs that are currently being played on Itunes or Media Player, browse for artists, albums, change volume and much more...

It allows the user to modify the current behaviour as well as add support for new applications. You can add support by writing Java or VB scripts, defining key maps and file actions. With key maps the user can very easy and fast define application actions and link them to any buttons on the mobile phone.

E-Paper Watch

Japanese company Seiko will release a limited edition of 500 units of their Spectrum SVRD001, the first watch in the world that uses flexible e-paper or Electrophoretic Display (EPD). The design of the watch is similar to a bracelet and the body is made of stainless steel and a black & white e-paper.

It will weigh 134g and will be 37mm thick and cost around Euro 1900. It will be available worldwide in January 2006.

The Whereabouts of Dr. Einstein's Brain

Dr. Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955 at Princeton Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated without ceremony on the same day, and his ashes scattered at an undisclosed location.

But the body that arrived at the cremation oven was not quite complete… it was lacking its brain.

Samsung's Laptop-Desktop

Samsung has released the M70, a hybrid PC, with a detachable 19" screen, so you can use your laptop as a desktop too.


It boasts of a 19" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) HDTV compatible screen, Pentium M770 (2.13GHz) CPU, 1Gb of DDR 533MHz RAM, 100Gb HDD, Wireless LAN, alongwith other "usual" stuff. My birthday is around the corner, anyone listening?

Penguin-suited activists crash Microsoft's Berlin parliament presentation

Activists from the youth chapter of the German Greens party and the Berlin division of German hacker association CCC showed up in penguin suits and with a big 'Alt+F4' banner. They even managed to sneak in a PowerBook and deliver an audio stream via UMTS mobile internet connection.
